Spring Care Tips For Your Hot Tub

Spring Care Tips for Your Hot Tub
Ready to wake your spa up after winter? Here's when to do it and exactly how.
When should I de-winterize my hot tub?
Two things need to line up: you're ready to use the spa regularly again, and your local temps are staying consistently above freezing. (For reference, we recommend winterizing in the first place if a spa will sit unattended for more than 6 weeks — so de-winterizing is just reversing that.)
How do I de-winterize a hot tub?
- Clean it up. Wipe down anything that got dirty or dusty over the winter.
- Flush the antifreeze. Fill the tub partially, run the pumps for a few minutes, then drain completely. Even non-toxic antifreeze can irritate skin, so get it fully out of the plumbing.
- Reconnect and reset. Reconnect pumps and heaters, open the air-bleed valves, and close the drain valves.
- Refresh the filters and water. Replace filters, then refill with fresh water.
- Sanitize. Turn the spa on and shock the water to make sure it's fully clean before use.
- Set your temp and wait. Bullfrog Spas heat up 3-5 degrees per hour, so give it time to reach your ideal temp.
- Enjoy. Once it hits temperature, hop in.
Do I have to do this myself?
No — our water care technicians handle de-winterizing for you, 7 days a week. If you'd rather skip the steps above entirely, we'll get your spa soak-ready and hand it back to you.
